HAH I love how he's curled himself around the hydrostat! If you have any-ANY-any questions at all, I adopted Kaa (my ball python) when he was a year old, and he's heading into 8 years now and I can be of assistance any time.
I strongly recommend cedar chips, they do a much better job of maintaining the right moisture level and an undertank heater for his "Warm" zone and look forward to rearranging his tank often, they get bored and LOOOVED to rearrange. Be sure you tank lid is ball python proof, they are WICKED escape artists...Caught Kaa twice making his move out the doors. :3 SNEAKY!
he's adorable, they are WONDERFUL pets and excellent beginner snakes!
the person that I got the tank from, and the person working at the pet store said that pine was better, I think I originally had cedar but I had to switch it out :0. I already have a heater under the tank, rather than a light because it dries the tank out and makes it hard for them to shed.
I live in Canada, I have no choice but to have a lamp especially in the winter, and if you were suggested pine, by all means! Cedar has worked very well for me since I brought her home.
I also have a bearded dragon who outright refuses to drink from still water, so I am spraying them both daily, and that has helped oodles with the sheddings (Kaa also likes a tepid bath, two parts cold, one part warm and she moves around happily and sits up on her rock basking in the warmth before going for another swim, I really want to get a big tank for her so I can incorporate a filtered pool for her. She's definitely a water baby)

Had a red tail at one point, he was huge. My stepdad sold him. T^T
